Cork
Cork is the outer bark of the Cork Oak Tree which grows in the Mediterranean area. The trees are the only trees in the World that regenerates stripped bark. They are not cut down and can be harvested again and again.
It takes 20 to 25 years before the first cork can be harvested and after this, the bark can only be harvested once every 9 years. Harvesting cork barks assists in the absorption of CO2. Harvested cork trees absorb 3-5 more CO2 than non-harvested ones.
It is estimated that cork oak forests retain up to 14 million tons of CO2 per year, a huge contribution to reduce gas emissions, the main cause for climate change.
